Zaquia joined the Exercise Referral Scheme in May 2017 and has been exercising ever since to help with her type 2 diabetes and depression. Exercise has become part of Zaquia's weekly routine, attending the leisure centre up to 3 times a week - she cannot imagine life without it.

Suffering from depression, Zaquia has noticed improved mood and energy levels and feels that exercise has helped her overcome low moods and improved her confidence. There were many barriers for Zaquia to overcome, she is partially sighted so getting to the gym and learning a new route was a challenge itself. She quickly learnt that with the help of instructors, she could navigate around the gym and follow her exercise regime.

Zaquia has lost weight and her blood glucose levels are now in healthy range. Zaquia has ongoing Diabetes check ups andher Consultants are happy with her results, her commitment to exercise has successfully reversed her type 2 diabetes diagnosis!

Zaquia is now living a healthier lifestyle as a result of the Exercise Referral Scheme and remains physically active as a member of the centre. She has recommended the scheme to her mother and brother as the leisure centre consultant was easy and her instructors were very helpful.
